Buzz Blooms Mix
Provide a safe harbor for your insect pollinators, predators, and parasitoids with this eye-popping mix of annuals and perennials. Species were chosen for diversity in color, bloom time, seedling vigor, and available research on pollinator visitation. Mix includes 17 species of flowers. Email for the current list. For best results, sow less than 1/4” deep in a well-prepared seed bed between Nov-April. An excellent way to prepare a site is to lay down a tarp for 1-2 months, remove, broadcast seed and lightly cover with compost. Keep in mind that biennials and some perennials may not bloom until year 2. Adequate soil moisture is required for germination. Occasional irrigation will extend the bloom. Rate: 8-15#/ac

Recommend mixing with a bulking agent if mechanically applied. Another technique is hand-seeding tailing piles left by rodents. Sow between Nov-May. Adequate soil moisture is required for germination. Seed rate: 2-5lb/ac
5lb units Price: $17.60/lb
Meadowfoam
Meadowfoam is a small (5-6”), shallow-rooted, white-flowered ‘nativar’ grown in the Willamette Valley for oil seed. It readily reseeds itself and competes well with weeds. Provides early floral resources for pollinators and is a favorite hiding place for crab spiders. Recommended seed rates are high for under-vine use because 1) the goal is to outcompete weeds and 2) it is a difficult area to sow: 40lb/sown ac, or 1.5lb/1000sqft (assuming a 3’strip, 333 ft = 1000 square feet). In other locations, rates can be cut down to 10-15lbs/ac or lower depending on the goals.
Price: 5lb units $4.18/lb, >50lb $3.80/lb
Lacy Phacelia
This lovely coiled blue flower is a magnet for large and small-bodies bees, surphid flies and other pollinators. Phacelia tanacetifolia is fast to germinate, deep-rooted, and winter hardy to 20 def F. For these reasons we include it in many of our cover crop mixes. Grows up to 3’ tall and will re-seed if allowed. A true rock-star pollinator plant! Tolerates typical Willamette Valley winters well. Fall-sown phacelia will bloom earlier than spring-sown. Spring sown phacelia will bloom late into the summer. Seed rate 5-10lb/ac
